SHARING USING THE ROMANS ROAD SUCCESSFULLY!

EXPLAINING HOW TO RECEIVE CHRIST

THE SOUL WINNER'S MESSAGE.
The lost must know certain things to be saved. Regardless of how sincere and genuine he or she may be, if non-Christians do not know of certain facts about Christ and themselves, they cannot be saved. Cornelius, a very religious man in Acts chapter 10, was a very devout and deeply religious man but still lost (Acts 11:14). He was lost because he was without the knowledge of convincing facts about the Gospel message. He had to hear something. Romans 10:17 says, "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ."

THE ROMANS ROAD TO HEAVEN

The Roman Road – Key Facts
At the time of the Roman Empire, the Roman Road was very massive, including Europe, some of Africa, and some of Asia. Almost the entire established world connected with this enormous length of 50,000 miles (80,000 km) of paved roads to the Roman Empire using large stones. Supposedly a person could travel from Greece to Spain without stepping off the road.  At the time, it has been said, "all roads lead to Rome."

There is a Romans Road that leads to Heaven clearly marked in the Book of Romans in the New Testament in your Bible. The Romans Road is the most used method and probably the best known for presenting the Salvation plan. Having an outline to keep on track and being open to the Holy Spirit, directing you to particular verses that fit the occasion. (Romans: 3:23, 6:23, 5:8,10:9-10, 13.) Encourage you to check out these verses and memorize one or two in each section. Recommend putting the verses on 3 X 5 index or cue cards and were to find the verses on the back of the card for a reference point in sharing the Gospel.

IMPORTANT:
Today's study guide will show eleven different methods of using the Romans Road, starting with the easiest way first. And each method is increasing in detail, depending on the circumstances and the person you are sharing with. The same as you use a map in traveling to a new city, we will be drawing a map on each Romans Road To Heaven method. Please find one or two techniques that you feel comfortable with and memorize and mark in your Bible. To help you know it by heart on each method, we have a PDF to use and print or download to your device for your convenience at the bottom of each method. After practicing a technique that works for you, write out an outline on a cue card as per the above illustration to keep you calm, composed, unhurried, spontaneous, and on track.

 

METHOD 1: THE ROMANS ROAD SIMPLEST METHOD
(FOR A NEW CHRISTIAN - 1 Page Long)

1. Start by telling your story, your personal testimony of how you met Christ.
2. Ask the question, "Has anything like that ever happened to you?"
3. Write in your Bible or New Testament Bible the following Bible verses in order to share the Gospel. You could use a highlight marker or underline the verses in your Bible. After reading Romans 3:23, have the page number at the bottom of your Bible or in the Bible margin have the next verse, Romans 6:23, and so on.

Romans 3:23 - Man's Need.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Romans 6:23 - Sin's Penalty.
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 5:8 - God's Provision.
"But God demonstrates his own love toward us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 10:9-10 - Man's Response.
"If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."

Meet for coffee at a coffee shop, park, or invite them to your home for a visit. Spending time with them shows that you care and your interest is genuine.

Give them a Bible or a New Testament Bible, if possible, suggest that you keep an extra Bible in your car or a New Testament Bible in your pocket or purse. Ask them to begin reading at the Gospel of John in the New Testament. We recommend a New Internation Version (NIV) devotional Bible for those searching. Get together for a Bible study on the Book of John. Recommend our 5 minutes a day or 15 minutes a day study guide on the Gospel of John.

METHOD 2: THE ROMANS ROAD SIMPLE METHOD
FOR NEW CHRISTIANS - 2 PAGES - MORE DETAIL

Memory Verse
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)
We are to be witnesses starting with our neighborhood and going out from there through the Holy Spirit's power and gifts!

Did you have an opportunity to work on your personal testimony this week?
Did you have an opportunity to share your testimony with someone?

A simple way for new Christians to share the Gospel is to use these four Scriptures in the Romans Road.

Jesus gives the disciples these necessary marching orders after His resurrection before returning to the Father. That their main purpose in life is to be His witnesses in those these meet, telling others of the things they have heard, seen, and learned from Jesus. And yes, we have the same orders today by learning a few down-to-earth ways to fulfill our sharing the Gospel command after discovering how to make and share a personal testimony. Today, we'll study how to share the Gospel with people using the Romans Road.

There are four verses we are going to read, understand, discuss, and focus on today. To begin, open your Bible or a New Testament Bible to the first blank page, and inside the front cover, write "Romans 3:23" with a pen. This is the first verse we will use for the Romans Road. Writing this text in front of your Bible empowers you to be immediately ready to start the Romans Road when you need it. Now open your Bible to Romans 3:23. For each of the four verses in the Romans Road, we will do three things:
       1. In your, Bible highlight the verse using a colored marker, so it's easy to find. (Would recommend picking one color for Salvation verses.)
       2. Underline a keyword or two to guide and give emphasis to your discussion.
       3. Write down close to that verse in the Bible margin what the next verse reference is.

THE ROMANS ROAD GUIDE

1. Romans 3:23: (Underline the word sinned and highlight this verse in your Bible.)

Romans 3:23: "For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God."

We have all sinned and have all done things that are offensive and displeasing to God. No one is innocent.

(Now in the Bible margin, write ROMANS 6:23.)

2. Romans 6:23: (Underline the words wages and gift and highlight this verse in your Bible.)

Romans 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

The punishment (wages) that we have deserved and earned for our sins is death. Not just physical death, but everlasting separation and death from Godm but the Gift of God is a free gift of eternal life He offers us through Jesus!

(Now in the Bible margin, write ROMANS 5:8.)

3. Romans 5:8: (Underline the words Christ died for us and highlight this verse in your Bible.)

Romans 5:8: "But God demonstrates his own love toward us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Jesus' death paid for the price of our sins. Jesus Christ died for us!

(Now in the Bible margin, write ROMANS 10:9-10.)

4. Romans 10:9-10: (Underline the words declare, Jesus is Lord, believe, you will be saved, mouth, and heart and highlight these two verses in your Bible.)

Romans 10:9-10: "If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."

Salvation and the forgiveness of sins are available to anyone who will trust in Christ as their Savior and Lord. To be saved, we must confess and acknowledge our belief in Him and be willing to surrender control to God for our lives.

THE ABC's OF SALVATION.
1 ADMIT to God that you are a sinner.
2. BELIEVE in Jesus Christ as God's Son.
3. CONFESS your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior & Lord.

Now in the Bible margin, write Pray close by the last verse.

When you are finished sharing the Gospel with someone using the Romans Road, say: Would you (their name) like to follow the Romans Road to salvation? If so, here is a salvation prayer, you can pray to God. By saying this prayer below, you declare to God that you rely on and trust Jesus Christ for your salvation. The words will not save you. Only faith and trust in Jesus can provide salvation!

SALVATION PRAYER:

"God, I know that I have sinned against you and am deserving of Your punishment. But Jesus Christ bore the punishment for me that I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. With your help and guidance, I place my trust and dependence in You for salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful forgiveness and Grace - the amazing gift of eternal life! Amen!"

APPLY AND PRACTICE THIS WEEK by highlighting the four verses and labeling the Romans Road in your favorite Bible or using a New Testament Bible, which is not as intimidating as a large Bible. This will give you a handy, easy-to-carry, and useful tool for sharing the Gospel with anyone.  Once you have finished marking your Bible, then explain the Romans Road to a Christian friend or family member. Show them how to mark their own Bible!

Once you've had lots of practice, ask God in prayer to give you the opportunity to share the Romans Road with a nonbeliever this week, leaving the results with God!

STEP ONE: What God thinks of fallen man's sinful state.
       Romans 3:10
       "As it is written: There is no one righteous, not even one;"

STEP TWO: We are all sinners by nature and by choice.
       Romans 3:23
       "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"

STEP THREE: By one man's sin entered the world, which resulted in death.
       Romans 5:12
       "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned -"

STEP FOUR: We receive eternal life as a free gift.
       Romans 6:23
       "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

STEP FIVE: God demonstrated His love for us, His enemies.
       Romans 5:8-9
       "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him!"

STEP SIX: We must trust and surrender to Jesus as Lord.
       Romans 10:9-10
       "If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."

STEP SEVEN: Our Assurance of Salvation through Jesus.
       Romans 10:13
        for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

STEP EIGHT: Place your Faith in Jesus Christ.

1.  RECOGNIZE that everyone has sinned and fallen short of God's ideal.
Romans 3:23

2.  KNOW the wages or payment for sinning is death.
Romans 6:23

3.  GOD LOVED YOU so much that He sent His only Son to die for us.
Romans 5:8-9

 4.  IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and allow Him to become the master of our life.
Romans 10:13

 

STEP NINE: A Prayer to Invite Jesus Christ into your heart and life.

"Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner, and my sin deserves to be punished. I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died for me and rose from the grave. I want to turn from my sin and trust Jesus Christ alone as my Savior and Lord.

Thank you for your forgiveness and for giving me everlasting life. I now put my faith and trust in Jesus. Thank You in Jesus' name, Amen."    

 

Faith is having the courage to let God have control. If you have believed in your heart and confessed with your mouth as God requires, you are now saved!!

(TRADITIONAL METHOD - 1 PAGE)

The ROMANS ROAD....is a roadway you can walk. It is an assortment of New Testament Bible verses from the book of Romans. If you walk down this path, you will end up having insight into how to be saved.

Admit That You Are A Sinner.
Romans 3:10:  As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;"
Romans 3:23: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Romans 5:12: "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned."

Sin Has An Ending ... It Results In Death.
Romans 6:23a: "For the wages of sin is death,"
We all owe this wage of spiritual death.

Realize That God Loves You!
Romans 5:8: "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
When Jesus died on the cross, He paid sin's penalty.

Salvation Is A Free Gift From God To You!
Romans 6:23b: "... but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
You can't earn this gift. You must ask and receive it.

You Must Ask God To Forgive You And Save You.
Romans 10:9-10: "If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."

Like Any Gift It Must Be Received!
Romans 10:13: for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

What does the Roman Road bring us?

Well the good news of Jesus Christ, of course!

What is the "Good News," or "The Gospel, you might ask?

For that, we can travel "The Romans Road," which is a quick stroll through some key passages in the book of Romans in the Holy Bible. Many people memorize and use Romans Road when sharing the Gospel message.

The Romans Road clearly defines:
1. Who needs salvation.
2. Why we need salvation.
3. How God provides salvation.
4. How we receive salvation.
5. The results of salvation.

1. Everyone needs salvation because we have all sinned.
Romans 3:10-11. As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God."
Romans 3:23: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

2. The price (or consequence) of sin is death.
Romans 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." 

3. Jesus Christ died for our sins. He paid the price for our death.
Romans 5:8: "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

4. We receive salvation and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.
Romans 10:9-10: "If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." 
Romans 10:13: "for, Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

5. Salvation through Jesus Christ brings us into a relationship of peace with God. (Romans 8:38-39)

OUTLINE OF A PRAYER TO RECEIVE CHRIST!
1. Admit you are a sinner. Understand that as a sinner, you deserve death.
2. Repent (turn from your sins) by turning from your old life of sin to a new life in Christ.
3. Believe Jesus Christ died on the cross to save you from sin and death.
4. Confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is the master of your life and your God forever.
5. Receive, through faith in Jesus Christ, His free gift of salvation.

METHOD 7: THE ROMANS ROAD MAP

The Romans Road Map.
You can follow this scriptural road map to heaven. You can use this Romans Road road map to share and lead others to heaven.

1. The Bible says that all have sinned in Romans 3:10 and Romans  3:23.
It is our universal problem; all have sinned.

2. The price of sin is death and separation from God found in  Romans 5:12 and Romans  6:23.

3. Jesus paid the price for our sins found in Romans 5:8. God provided a way for our sins to be forgiven and never to be held against us any longer.

4. We personally accept and receive forgiveness and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ: Romans 10:9-10,13
Are you now willing and prepared to ask God to forgive you of your sins? And accept Jesus as your Savior, who paid the price for your sins?

5. Then pray this prayer or one similar.

Dear God, I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again and became my Savior. Lord, I ask you to forgive me for my sins and come into my heart right now. Take me and make me a vessel that you want me to be. In Jesus' name, Amen.

6. The Bible teaches, if you die in your sins you will go to hell. But if you confess and turn from your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. Jesus gives to you the free gift of eternal life. Salvation brings and gives us peace with God. Romans 5:1, Romans 8:1, Romans 8:38-39.

METHOD 8: THE ROMANS ROAD

Encourage you to memorize verses from the book of Romans to help you in presenting the gospel message. Or mark in your Bible margin 1 to 7 scripture verses in your Bible for easy reference.

1. Romans 3:23:  "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…"
2. Romans 5:8:  "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
3. Romans 6:23:  "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
4. Romans 8:1:  "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."
5. Romans 10:9:  "If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
6. Romans 10:10:  "For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."
7. Romans 10:13:  "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

If possible, have the other person read the Bible verses for themselves. A lot more effective than you trying to tell them a lot of detail. Ask them to tell you what each verse is saying to them.

If the person is ready to respond to the Gospel presentation, re-read Romans 10:9-10 and ask them to confess their sin and their trust and faith in Christ through prayer. The prayer is simply an expression of the faith they have in their heart. Encourage them to talk to God in their own words. Or have a prayer similar to this below, written in the back of your Bible.

Dear God, I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again and became my Savior. Lord, I ask you to forgive me for my sins and come into my heart right now. Take me and make me a vessel that you want me to be. In Jesus' name, Amen.

METHOD 9: THE ROMANS ROAD PLUS OTHER VERSES

How To Receive Christ As Lord And Savior!

Paul said he was in Romans 1:15, "That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome." We have to be ready to preach the Gospel in a way that will answer people's life questions with scriptural answers. This will require you to spend time MEMORIZING BIBLE VERSES on salvation and studying thoroughly how to present the passages answer people's spiritual questions.

Study and memorize the plan of salvation in a seven-point outline form. For instance, memorize or mark in your Bible or use small cue cards with the verses written on them.

1.  All sinners - Romans 3:23

2.  Result - death - Romans 6:23

3.  Heaven perfect - Revelation 21:27

4.  Cannot earn - Ephesians 2:8-9

5. Christ paid and gives righteousness - 2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 3:9

6.  Only believe - John 3:16

7.  Know you have eternal life - I John 5:13

This is one of the best methods of memorizing the scripture references and a few words to keep you on point. This will be exceedingly valuable when you witness to others, not that you will quote it precisely as you share. But in your mind, you will then be free to start-off right in with the Gospel even when you are caught tongue-tied for lack of knowing what to say or nervous.

IMPORTANT
In business, memorizing the main points of what one wants to cover has been a successful method where person-to-person contact is required in any sales pitch. SUMMARY

IMPORTANT DO PICK ONE AND SEE HOW THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL USE YOU. Yes, you might not be perfect, but who is. You will make mistakes, just like everyone else. And that is OKAY. BUT remember and memorize this verse in Zechariah 4:6 says, "So he said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord Almighty."

I have heard it said we should have more modern methods to present the Gospel. In over a couple months of making these 11 Romans Road methods study guide, I would strongly disagree. We hear of excellent results worldwide using the Romans Road method to share the Gospel. One brand-new pastor we know in Kenya in one day had two men come to the Lord using the Romans Road and had ten people water baptized the next weekend. The Romans Road methods are as modern as they get explaining man's/woman's position and God's position. May the Lord bless you as you share the "GOOD NEWS" of the Gospel.

Recommend you keep a copy of one of the above methods in your wallet, or purse, or in your Bible to use when you share the Gospel. It is an excellent tool for those new to mature Christians in sharing their faith, and it also keeps you on track on how to share without getting sidetracked.
