ONE VERSE EVANGELISM - METHOD 20

In today's study guide, we will use one-verse Romans 6:23 to share the Gospel easily, effectively, and visually showing Christ's love. Many Christians feel you need a complex and a long memorized number of verses to present the Gospel. I am not sure about you, but learning something illustrated is the most powerful way to learn; at least for me, it is.

One-Verse Evangelism is a straightforward, practical way to illustrate sharing the truth using only one verse. It is based on you asking questions and can be shared in less than 10 minutes for those on a busy schedule having an impact for a lifetime - no, make that for eternity.

One verse evangelism is my favorite method as I am a visual person, and you are not just verbalizing; you are illustrating the way of Salvation. I came to the Lord with a visual presentation of the Gospel over 50 years ago. I had zero thought of accepting Christ as Savior that night, but I still remember it was simple and easy to follow a logical presentation. And by God's Grace, I understood how to have a personal relationship with God that night. I could not ask Jesus into my life fast enough. That is your eternal goal of illustrating the Gospel using your thoughts and imagination in your delivery of a one verse presentation.

I have given a lot of attention to your approach on each topic, but it is unnecessary to use every thought. The outlines below are more to help provide suggestions on your presentation. We are all different and have unique spiritual experiences in our Christian walk, which will affect our delivery of the one-verse method. It is critical not to make a head knowledge approach. Instead, let your words come from your heart. I often felt unworthy and not equipped in my presentation, but I usually get a response like this to my amazement. "Wow, I can tell your experience is real, and something amazing has happened to you." Articulate from your heart in your own words and experience coming from your inner soul.

God is not looking for perfection, just a willingness to share the Gospel from your heart with leaving the results with God. And yes, you will think I could have done it better, and the enemy will try and discourage you. Just like starting a new job, there is a learning curve. But our new job of sharing God's truth is the most crucial lifetime assignment and activity by God's Grace.

BEST METHOD OF LEARNING THE ONE VERSE EVANGELISM APPROACH
- Be in prayer for God's guidance, opportunities, and boldness.
- Use your own comparisons and stories that come naturally from your own experiences.
- Paraphrase each section in your own words read them out loud each time over and over.
- Start writing it on paper each time with shorter notes.

- Another suggestion is to tape and listen to your personalized method on a voice recorder app on any electronic device like an Ipad.
- Next, if possible, practice sharing with a Christian friend listening to their advice before you share with a non-Christian.
- Then, practice making your custom presentation for a week or two every day, building up your spiritual confidence in your delivery by leaning on the Holy Spirit's guidance.
- Do not forget you will make mistakes. We are not looking for the perfect presentation, but that is a believable Gospel coming from the heart.
- Be a good listener to the unbeliever's answers.
- Adjust your delivery to their personality, needs, and where they come from in their understanding of the Gospel.
- Be alert and able to respond to any confusions or distractions.
- Remember, it is not a compelling illustration that changes lives. It is the Holy Spirit who opens people's hearts to hear and heed the message of Salvation. "The Spirit gives life, the flesh counts for nothing..." (John 6:63-65)
- Our part is to continually sharpen our methods to give every person an articulate answer with integrity and simplicity.

KEY METHODS TO START A SPIRITUAL CONVERSATION
First, try and turn the conversation into a spiritual topic using one of these examples.
Method 1: Using a world event, for example, Covid 19 Pandemic.
Ask the Question:
" I understand with so much isolation folks are truly looking for life answers for their situation. I hear many are looking for spiritual answers. "What are your thoughts?"
Your Response:
Listen attentively to their answer. Go directly to Romans 6:23 illustration for the answer to spiritual questions.

Method 2: The Curiosity approach is a great way to open a spiritual conversation up.
Ask the Question:
"Would you like to understand the basic theme of the Bible?" "If you are interested, I can draw a picture in 10 minutes that will explain all 66 books of the Bible in a down-to-earth way. Are you interested?"

This CURIOSITY APPROACH arouses interest in inquiring minds. The curiosity approach sparks attentive relevance as very few people have had someone explain the whole Bible in 10 minutes or so. If they say yes,
Your Response:
Proceed with the Romans 6:23 illustration.

Method 3: For those with searching minds.
Ask the Question:
"How to become a Christian can be shown in one verse that will take up to 10 minutes to explain?" "Are you interested?"
Your Response:
If they yes, go directly to Romans 6:23 illustration.

Method 4: For those that have a concerned mind for their life and the world.
Ask the Question:
"Ask if they would like to see a simple illustrated Bible verse explaining God's amazing relationship for humanity (us)." "Are you interested?"
Your Response:
If they agree, go directly to the Romans 6:23 illustration.

RELEVANT AND IMPERATIVE that at first, you need to mentally visualize the illustration's central theme in your presentation. As you can see in the picture, on the mountain/cliff on the left side is a man with a massive gap between him and God, and on the right side of the mountain/cliff is God. All your sketches below will be representing and verbalizing such a Gap between God and us.

How you start is critical to making a first good impression. Two different methods used are:
Method 1 is using a Bible, having the non-Christian read Romans 6:23 out of the Bible.
Method 2 is not using a Bible.

Method 1 using a Bible:
Open in your Bible Romans 6:23 and ask the person to read aloud the Bible scripture as you write the verse out on a piece of paper. I do not use this approach, though a lot of people do use it. In a lot of cases opening a Bible will scare the person off. It might come across as a Bible thumper or being aggressive and forceful.

As a new Christian, I had a family member visiting and in, my zeal, wanted to share what happened to me. I opened my Bible, and the first words my family member said is, "you will not preach to me." She left our house immediately. Over the years, this verse in Matthew 10:16 has taken on new meaning to me. "I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. "herefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves." Use Godly wisdom in your approach, seen to many over the years that were painful and unpleasant delivery of the Gospel message.

Method 2 not using a Bible:
It is a practical, clear, fun, and understandable way using a non-judgmental approach. Easy to learn and use with one verse to memorize and adaptable to a short or long time frame. Less threatening and not offensive as preaching at someone. No flipping through a lot of verses back and forth in your Bible, but still challenging and interesting for those listening by asking appropriate questions. You could be saved 10 minutes or 100 years but it is easy to use for any Christian with some practice.

ROMANS 6:23 ONE VERSE EVANGELISM VIDEOS
Illustrating Romans 6:23 using someone else's videos will demonstrate what a presentation would look like. One is a short 1:22 minute video and a 7:13 minute video. We suggest the length of your presentation around 10 minutes depending on the individual. How receptive they are, the time involved, their responses, and many other factors. More you share over time, you will become more adjustable to the individual and the situation.

Remember, you can use one or some questions/suggestions for each section. There is no need to use all the ideas; only use what works in your presentation.

WRITE OUT (or have it prewritten) Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Method 2: This is my favorite approach, using one Bible verse without using a Bible. Write out Romans 6:23 as on the picture illustration on a piece of paper or if in a restaurant using a napkin. I suggest having a pen or pencil and a piece of paper in your purse, wallet, or pocket. You can have this part of the illustration done ahead of time or start with a blank piece of paper. Using your imagination, make the two mountains look as realistic as you can. Whatever works best for you.

First, draw the left side mountain with a STICK MAN on top.
Second, leave a large space representing a gap.
Third, draw the right side mountain with GOD on top.

Then write out Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." on the top part as in the picture illustration.

LET US START! Your diagram should have two opposing mountains with an enormous gap between them and Romans 6:23 on top and the stick man on top of the right side mountain and GOD on the top of the left side mountain as in the image illustration.

1. WAGES - Romans 6:23, "For the wages ...
Put a circle or a box around the word "wages."

Ask the Question:
"What are wages?"
Response Should Be:
"Wage is a payment from a person in return for services carried out."

Ask the Question:
"How does it make you feel if your boss at the end of the week did not pay you for what you earned?" (Wait and listen before responding.)
Their answer should be something like this,
"I would want justice for the wages that I worked for and get paid."
Your Response:
"You worked hard for the wages, and you deserve to get paid."

WRITE OUT wages on the left side of the cliff/mountain.

Respond With:
(Create a mental picture by opening your wallet/purse by saying.)
"If you worked for me for a day and I gave you a $100.00, that would be your wages. Similarly, with God, we earn wages from God for how we lived our lives."

Key Note:(Give Attention Too and Reflect.)
Give the person time to let it sink in, and if necessary, ask another question.

Ask the Question:
"We all know deep down that it is only right and just that we get what we deserve."

2. SIN - Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin ...

Ask the Question:
"What comes to mind when you hear the word "sin"? (Listen attentively to their answer.)
Respond With:
"Sin translated literally means "missing the mark."
"Then explain that it surprises people to know that sin is more an attitude than an action. A couple of examples: God likens hatred with murder and lust with adultery. Temptation first starts in one's mind "attitude" and then "action." Sin consists of stuff we do not do as well as things we do. We can be purposefully fighting God or eliminating Him from our lives altogether."
(Remember, personalize sin from your own experiences in a few short sentences that will be 1000 times more effective.)

Ask the Question: (Suggestion for the working generation.)
Draw a mental picture of two friends in partnership in business. One friend did not show up for work and ignored all the rules, and the company failed. How would you feel, and what would happen to their relationship?
Respond With:
"Because the one friend created a problem in their business relationship and caused a separation between the two friends, our sin creates a large gap between God and us, as in the business relationship illustration."

Ask the Question: (Same Suggestion for the younger generation.)
Draw a mental picture of two siblings or two roommates on guidelines of who uses the iPad and if one sibling or roommate ignored the rule and broke the iPad.
"Would that create a problem or separation in your relationship?"
Respond With:
"Same with our sin, it creates separation between God and us."

Ask the Question:
What comes to mind when you hear the word "sin?"

Ask the Question:
"What are your thoughts on how we should live our life to get into heaven?
After their response.
"Is this how you live your life?"
(It should make the person conscious of by their own standards that have failed in living a perfect life.)

Ask the Question:
"Does God seem far away or even far-removed from your life?"
If they say "yes,"
Respond With:
"Explain that is one of the things that sin does makes God seem so far away from us. God has created us with a free will and lets us choose. When we chose to disobey God and do our own thing apart from God, the results are separation from God. Say, "Sin separates us from God," pointing to the two mountains illustration with a large gap between."

Practical Insight: (Into the context of this section.)
The word sin in the Bible means "to miss the mark." Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." God is perfect, and because of sin, we are not. It does not matter how good we are, how religious we live, or hard we work at doing good things. We cannot meet God's standard. We all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. It is vital in your own words to make sure the person you are communicating with understands this "sin" principle.
Respond With:
One practical suggestion is to use your own life experiences of how you "missed the mark." (Make it relatable to the person you are talking to.)

3. DEATH - Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, ...

Ask the Question:
"What comes to your mind when you think of death? (Listen attentively to the answer.)
Respond With:
"Death is the end of life (separation) from the body. Death in the Bible also means a kind of separation from our body and life. More in-depth than that, God is the author of life, and spiritual death means eternal separation from God."

It is meaninful to Ask the Question:
"What does that mean to you a spiritual death separated from God forever?
Respond With:
"In a nutshell, sin drives each of us apart from God's goodness."

Ask the Question:
"As God is good, caring, and lovingly, is there anything worse than being separated from God for eternity (forever)?"
Respond With:
"Would you want to experience separation from God today, but also forever?" "Without God, things are hopeless." (Use the world situation or Covid 19 as to how people feel hopeless in today's society.)

Key Note:(Give Attention Too and Reflect.)
As Christians sharing the good news of God's love that justifies and fills us with hope for the future, we personally and genuinely have to believe in God's Love to present the "Good News," as in the picture. Even death has no dominion over those who love and are loved by the Lord.

L

isten attentively to their answers which helps you guide the discussion and show that you care what the person is thinking and saying. It is easy when we are sharing to concentrate on a technique with a method of A + B = C without really listening to their answers. Always be genuine and let the Holy Spirit guide you. The person you are talking to will usually know if your presentation is just a memorized plan or is a real, honest and natural spiritual approach.

Practical Insight: (Into the context of this section.)
Be cautious as sometimes an unsaved person will try to side-track you from sharing with off-topic questions. Their beliefs in God are being questioned, and no one likes to lose control. A protective mechanism kicks in for the person witnessed, too, and it is essential to let your words be sprinkled with Grace as you share.

They will say something like, "I do not talk about politics and religion." If they ask questions you do not know, be honest and say I do not know. But I am glad to look it up if you like to meet again. Crucial to go directly back to what you were previously discussing.

That is where PRACTICE - PRACTICE - PRACTICE - SHARING comes in.
You are not memorizing a system as much as really knowing each summarized point's sharing theme in a straightforward method. As a young Christian, I know the Gospel message was tough to share the "Good News." I was all over the place and could get side-tracked very quickly.

Yes, it takes time and commitment to practice, but as you give thought to each main point each day, it becomes a way of life to share. It becomes a part of you deep inside, and you live to share this fantastic news. It is essential to know what we believe in and verbalize it in a balanced, graceful way as in the picture of God's Love portrayed. For me, it takes time, so I go over each of my main points when I have downtime, for example, when driving, walking, or brushing my teeth.

4. BUT - Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but ...

Ask the Question:
"What do you think of when someone starts off with nice words and then suddenly says But?"
Respond With:
"If a partner or someone you are dating says, "but" might imply negative words will ensue with sometimes not a favorable conclusion."

Ask the Question:
Have you ever experienced that "BUT?"
Respond With:
"Your significant other says, "You are so wonderful, BUT ...., it is not you; it is me." You know you are in trouble."

It is an important word "but" as we so far talked about the bad news and the hopelessness, now the "but," God gives us "good news" and "hope." for all of us.

 

Practical Insight: (Into the context of this section.)
The dictionary definition of "BUT" introduces a phase contrasting the opposite with what has been said. In this context, it is essential because the "but" means an intense and forceful contrast idea is coming. It is just the opposite as we looked at the bad news, and what is coming next is the "Good News." An opposite extreme solution is coming that it is crucial to relay and offers us hope.

Key Note:(Give Attention Too and Reflect.)
Suggestion, go over these points again quickly, Wages, Sin, and Death pointing to the boxed or circled words. Get EXCITED when you present the biggest "BUT" in history. Encourage you to use your imagination and enthusiasm in describing this simple word "BUT." Emphasizing it is an enormous word. Our helplessness and the world changed with this immense word "BUT." Let it come from deep inside your conviction and joy of what is coming next. If you are passionate, stirred up, and fired up about what is coming next, the non-Christian will sense it and at the very least know you have an authentic experience. Look for the right timing, to say a few short sentences on how you experienced your "BUT." PERSONALIZE YOUR "BUT" EXPERIENCE!!!

5. GIFT- Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift ...

Connect the gap between the two mountains where the red lines are in the illustration.

Key Note:(Give Attention Too and Reflect.)
When adding a word to the right side of the cliff/mountain, be sure and emphasize the contrast between the two extremes. Show the distinction on the left side of the cliff is wages, and contrast to the opposite cliff/mountain on the right side is a "gift."

Use one or a few of the questions below in your delivery that works for you. There is no hard and fast rule.

Ask the Question:
"What is the difference between the word wage and gift?"
Respond With:
"Wages are earned, and a gift is free with no conditions."

Ask the Question:
"One example is receiving your gifts at Christmas. Were they earned by the person receiving the gifts?"
Respond With:
"A gift is not earned by you who received it, but someone else bought it."

Ask the Question:
"How do you feel about someone that gives you an expensive gift?"
Respond With:
"It is impossible to earn that gift that has already been bought for you. But some people try to earn God's favor by being religious and doing good deeds. BUT IT IS INCONCEIBALBE AND HOPELESS TO EARN SOMETHING THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN BOUGHT FOR YOU."

Ask the Question:
"If you bought a special gift for a friend that meant a lot to you. How would you feel if that close friend refused to accept your gift without them paying you first for it?"

Ask the Question:
"What is the best part of getting a gift?"
Respond With:
Suggest role play by taking out your wallet/purse, saying, "If I gave you $200.00, no strings attached, what would your feelings be towards me." (Give them time to let it sink in and answer.)

Ask the Question:
"How does that make you feel receiving a free gift?"
Respond With:
"More than likely, the recipient feels thankful and acknowledged." Visualize this picture verbally to reflect and relate the experiences of giving or receiving a free gift making it personal to their situation.
Respond With:
Suggest using a role-play of a man/boy giving his wife/girlfriend a gift. And the visible reaction of the person receiving the gift.
(Or use your own example.)

Ask the Question:
"How does that make you feel about the person giving you the gift?"
Respond With:
"You want to react with a genuine appreciation, acceptance, and kindness to the giver."

Suggestive points to highlight. (Gentle reminder to listen thoughtfully to their answer.)
a. The gift is free for the individual, but someone had to purchase it with a cost involved.
b. Gifts are absolutely free; you do not have to earn them, given in appreciation, kindness, and love.

Note: Leading into 6. Of God.
Respond With:
"It is the same with God; it is a free gift bought for you at a great price."

6. OF GOD - Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God ...

Show the distinction that the cliff's left side is sin and contrast the opposite cliff/mountain on the right side is "God."

Respond With:
"All of us have sinned, but God is perfect and has not sinned."

Respond With: (Emphasize the free gift is from God.)
"This gift is from God Himself. No one else can give this priceless special gift but God. Not religion, a church, church membership, or waiting till you are a better person. Or like many people trying to earn this gift by doing good deeds for God's favor."

Point out it is impossible to earn this free gift that has been bought for you at a great price. (A gentle reminder use one or a few of the questions below.)

Ask the Question:
"Suppose you had a close friend who did not want to receive the gift unless they paid you for the gift or wanted to do things to earn it before accepting it from you."
Respond With:
"Would not that be a little crazy and defeats the purpose of the gift. It is stupid and hopeless to earn what has already been bought for you."

Ask the Question:
"How does that make you feel when someone you know gives you a unique gift?"
Respond With:
"It makes you feel special."

Ask the Question:
"Why would anyone want to give another person a precious gift?"
Respond With:
"Because they love that person very much."

Ask the Question:
"What do you think why God would want to give you a gift?"
(Wait for their response. If the person has trouble responding, use the next response.)
Respond With:
"It is the same with God. He loves you very much also."

If it fits the situation, use your own experience of God's love. Remember, always keep it honest and real.

Practical Insight: (Into the context of this section.)
You should personalize your delivery with your Christian experiences. Your experiences are unique to YOU. Even more so, the person you are sharing with also will be a DISTINCT INDIVIDUAL with their own good and bad experiences and thoughts on Christianity/Religion.

In reality, you are questioning non-Christians' beliefs, lifestyle, goals, and what they live for are. There will be a battle going on, and you are in spiritual warfare with the devil and the Holy Spirit working. Be mentally and spiritually prepared for anything by being in prayer.

In sharing the Gospel, there is no sure-fire formula. But in saying that, you are learning an excellent sharing outline. You will meet every kind of person and attitude. Over time you will be prepared, and by the Grace of God, you will be able to deal with the good and bad responses. As we plant and/or reap the harvest of souls, leaving the results with God. "For we are God's fellow workers [His servants working together]; you are God's cultivated field [His garden, His vineyard], God's building." (1 Corinthians 3:9 Amplified)

Just a reminder that the unsaved person will usually try and get you off-topic by side-tracking issues. Respond kindly, saying that is an interesting point; let's finish this conversation first, and we can talk about that later. Many parents use this technique with children to say no to something without really saying no by deflecting and pivoting the question to another direction.

Or if you do not know the answer, be honest and say I do not know, but I can check it out, and we can talk about it later. Set a time if it fits the situation. Imperative then to go directly back to what you were previously discussing.

Ask the Question:
"What is the extreme opposite of separation from God?"
Respond With:
The answer is, "Eternal Life."

A gentle reminder to use one or a couple of the suggested questions; you do not need to use all of them.

7. ETERNAL LIFE - Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life ...

We do not deserve it, and we deserve just the opposite. Because Adam and Eve chose to disobey God and became separated from God by their sin, we also choose to live our lives separate from God. (Isaiah 53:6.)

Ask this Question:
"What do you think eternal life is?"
(Attentively listen to their response, and they might not have an answer.)
Respond With:
"Having a personal relationship with God in harmony for now and forever (eternity.) It starts while we are alive and lasts forever, even though we are not perfect, living in a sinful world."

Ask the Question:
"Why would God desire and need to give us a free gift, such as eternal life?"
Respond With:
"Because of God's Love for you ______." (Use the person's first name if possible.)

Ask the Question:
"Why would God desire and need to give us a free gift, such as eternal life?" "Isn't that awesome?"
Respond With:
"God's Love for us. God's gift of eternal life is free for the person receiving it, but someone had to purchase it."

Be conscious of the person's understanding and reaction. You might have to follow up with an explanation.
This is an excellent time to ask him/her if there is any part that they do not understand or have any questions. Make sure every point so far is clear and understandable before you continue on. If necessary, go back and explain that part that was not clear using a different approach.

Ask the Question: (Using their first name if possible)
"(First name) do you know how you can receive this free gift of God?"
Respond With:
"Receive the free love gift of God by believing and having faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior."

Practical Insight: (Into the context of this section.)
Critical to emphasize that Jesus is the only way to eternal life and going to heaven. Jesus paid for our imperfections and sins by dying on the cross and rose from the dead, triumphantly conquering death and sin. Jesus's obedience paid for our disobedience, taking away our sin as well as guilt.

If applicable and time is available, use your own Salvation experience here or at any point after this. Be aware that you do not side-track off the one-verse method. If you interject your testimony, keep it short and to a minimum using only a couple of sentences, making it personable as no one can argue to you about your own testimony.

Ask the Question: (Using their first name if possible)
"If you have received a unique gift, it had to come from someone giving the gift, right?"

Practical Insight: (Into the context of this section.)
Romans 6:23 does not state the condition of receiving God's free gift of eternal life. In the next section 10 below, these words are not found in Romans 6:23 but are very important as it clarifies that FAITH IN CHRIST is the condition of receiving eternal life. Recommend we have at least one Bible verse like John 3:16 memorized to back up the next section.

Here are excellent Bible verses to know.
John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
John 6:47: "Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life."
Romans 10:9: "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
Ephesians 2:8-9: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast."

Salvation is Savior-centered, not self-centered.
- Salvation is not based on our works. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
- Salvation is not universal-based everyone is saved. (John 14:6)
- Salvation is not legalism-based with a list of dos and don'ts. (Romans 6:23)
- Salvation is not found "in spiritual liberation" or "enlightenment" found in Eastern religions.

One illustration you can use for accepting Jesus Christ as Lord in your life.
Hold out a pen. Then ask the person "to visualize that someone bought the pen as a gift for them."
Hold out your pen and say to the person. "I had bought this pen for you as a present."

The Philippian jailer asked Paul in Acts 16:30-31, "What must I do to be saved?"
Paul responded with, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved..."
The Greek word "Pisteuo." translated Believe, means, "to believe, put one's faith in, trust and implies actions based on that trust will follow." It is not just knowing about Jesus, but you act on this knowledge by combing trust and faith acting on it.

Salvation is not about what steps you take to earn your way to Salvation. Yes, Christians should be baptized, publically confess Jesus as Savior, turn from sin, and commit their lives to obey the Lord. Yet, none of these are steps to Salvation, but Results Of Salvation.

Responses from folks I get daily sum it up in this phrase, "It's Only by FAITH in JESUS CHRIST, as my LORD and SAVIOR, that I could find what I am looking for - even with all the hardships of today." Always keep in mind that Salvation encompasses what God has done for us, now what we can do for Him.

10. BELIEVE

You, like me, will make many mistakes in our delivery of the Gospel. But I cannot say it enough that the person you are sharing with must understand and believe this fact by the Holy Spirit's power. Do not be in a rush to say, "believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved." Then race on to your next point, and the unsaved person goes on living their own life without Christ. It is critical to ask questions to see if they understand what you are saying.

We must make them aware of:
1.That Jesus is the only way to heaven.
2. Forgiveness of sin because of the cross.
3. Believing and trusting in Jesus alone. Not yourself, church, good deeds, or religion.
4. Committing to Jesus Christ becomes a new way of life and living the free gift He has given us.
5. That we are empowered to live for Jesus by the indwelling Holy Spirit to live with us and in us.

Practical Insight: (Into the context of this section.)
When people believe and trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, the results of Salvation are they repent (change one mind), confess (Romans 10: 9-10), and surrender. If we do not convey this process of believing in Christ, we fail and can cause spiritual damage to that soul.

There is a teaching method of 5 steps to heaven staircase checklist for people to climb and save themself from sin. This is a man-made illustration, and it is not you or me reaching the top of a staircase to God. When we hear the Gospel message and respond to the "Good News," we desperately throw ourselves at the feet of a Gracious God, not because of the 5 steps on a list, but what Jesus accomplished on the cross. My confidence comes from knowing what Jesus did on the cross. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9).

My Salvation experience was over 50 years ago, but I still remember it as it happened yesterday. At that time God and Christianity was the farthest thing from my mind. Christ dying on the cross and rose three days later was illustrated by young people at a church that evening. When the call was given to come to ask Jesus into your life, I got up without thinking and, in my mind, raced to the front altar to ask Jesus into my life. I knew nothing about Christianity and the steps on how to accept Christ. But that night, I heard the Gospel, I Believed and Repented of my sins and Confessed to God and Surrendered my life over to Christ my Savior and Lord that night. Amazing miracles happened that night by the Holy Spirit. Was I perfect after that? No. Spoiler alert God is still working on me. But one thing I have learned is being obedient to the Gospel in believing, repenting, and confessing Jesus as Lord.

Relate to your own Salvation experience if possible in your sharing. No one can argue against your own testimony. Even if they disagree with your conclusion, they will respect it is undeniable real to you.

REPENTANCE and FAITH  are also inseparable because if you BELIEVE  that Jesus is the Lord Who SAVES (Faith), you have a changed and transformed mind about your sin. Paul said in Acts 20:21, "I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.") The Spirit of God DEEPLY convinces us of our helplessness and sin and shows us the way of Salvation by us turning to God by believing and trusting in Jesus Christ.

Repent, Confess, and Surrender is not as much taking specific steps instead, everything comes together, interwoven, inseparable, and connected by the Holy Spirit. (Romans 10:8-11 NKJV)

"Now after John [the Baptist] was arrested and taken into custody, Jesus went to Galilee, preaching the good news of [the kingdom of God. and saying. "The [appointed period of] time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, regret past sins, live your life in a way that proves repentance; seek God's purpose for your life] and believe [with a deep, abiding trust] in the good news [regarding salvation]." (Mark 1:14-15 Amplified Bible).

Would you please reflect and give attention to this immense section? Do not just skim over it and just say, okay, I know that. Let it be so deep in your Spirit as this is the crutch and the central message of the Gospel.

Ask yourself how many churches and pastors don't open their altars to heart-broken people to come forward and repent on any given Sunday? Always pray for your Pastor and leadership to be filled with the Holy Spirit's guidance and wisdom.

Ask yourself this question how strongly did Jesus preach repentance? Jesus' answer was, "But unless you repent, you too will all perish." (Luke 13:5).

12. TRUST

The example I use is I love to kayak with a buddy. We have been out in our two kayaks in some big waves coming at us. But I know I can trust my friend if I get into dangerous trouble of tipping and drowning, and he can trust me to save him also. This trusting each other has happened on many occasions over the years. The bottom line is it gives me great confidence to tackle what the windstorms throw at us at any time. Because we know each of us would give our lives to help save the other from capsizing and drowning in a deadly storm.

Trusting Jesus is the same in the good days and in the storms of life. He suffered and died on the cross and rose from the dead to save our lives. So how can we not trust Him?

 

 

13. THE CLOSING - RECEIVING CHRIST

Key Note:(Give Attention Too and Reflect.)
How To Receive Christ involves turning to God from self (repentance) and believing and trusting Christ to come into our heart and life to forgive us of our sins so that we can enter into our own personal relationship with God. It does not matter what you have done in the past good or bad, or how rich or poor you are. Nothing we do can bridge that gap; just come empty of yourself to God.

Ask One Of These Questions:
1. After seeing this illustration,
"Would you like to ask Jesus into your life and have a personal relationship with God right now?"
Or 2. "Would you like to experience a close relationship with God right now"?
Or 3. Which side are you on? The side without Him or with Christ?" (Demonstrate using your illustration.)
Or 4. "Would you like to turn your life over to Jesus and have a close relationship with God right now?" (Repent, Confess, and Surrender.)

If they say, "No."
"Ask this Question:
"Ask if they have any questions?"
Or "Is there a certain part that you would like explained further?"
Or "Would you like to meet again?"

One suggestion is to give them a Salvation tract or a Bible to read to reinforce the Salvation message. In your response, leave it open to meet again if the person wants to talk later. Ask for their phone number, if appropriate, or email address. Suggest you meet for coffee in a day or so if they have any questions or thoughts. Keep them in prayer for the convicting power of the Holy Spirit to work.

 

Key Note:(Give Attention Too and Reflect.)
Be careful in using the above question #1 saying, "ask Jesus into your heart," that you do not leave out the crucial things such as repentance and faith. Always present the whole Gospel asking Jesus to enter your life and allowing the Lord to take control. We have to be mindful and meticulous about what we say and how we say it as we repeatedly practice our presentation.

One example is the word "believe," to an intellectual person, they might agree that certain facts are accurate and true. Judas Iscariot believed specific facts about Jesus, but he never trusted Jesus for Salvation. Salvation is trusting Jesus as your Savior, receiving His forgiveness, and being made a new person by faith through the cross and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. (Titus 3:5.)

If they say, "Yes."
If the person is willing to repent of their sin and trust Christ for salvation, help that person pray, confess their need for Christ, and surrender their life to Jesus. You may want to memorize a simple prayer in your own words or similar to the example prayer as below and ask them to repeat it after you, one phrase at a time.
Respond With:
Lead them in prayer, asking Jesus to forgive them and make them new.

Here Is A Suggested Prayer:
JESUS CHRIST LOVES YOU AND KNOWS YOU!
"DEAR LORD JESUS, I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died for my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I now invite You to come into my life. I want to trust You as Savior and follow You as Lord.  Amen."

1. Admit you are a sinner. Understand that as a sinner, you deserve death. (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent (turn from your sins) by turning from your old life of sin to a new life in Christ. (Romans 6)
3. Believe Jesus Christ died on the cross to save you from sin and death. (John 3:16)
4. Confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is the master of your life and your God forever. (Romans 10:9)
5. Receive, through faith in Jesus Christ, His free gift of Salvation. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Ask this Question:
"What is the most important thing the prayer you just said is saying?"

Practical Insight: (Into the context of this section.)
As with my Salvation testimony given above, it was not knowing a Salvation theory, doctrine, ideology, or method. It also is not as important the words they say as the attitude of their heart. Be in prayer using Godly wisdom and personalize your comments to the individual being prepared to keep it simple or complex, adapting to the situation trusting the Holy Spirit's guidance. Encourage them to be honest when they pray, and God will listen and hear every word. REASSURE THEM BY SAYING: "SIMPLY BELIEVE YOU HAVE ASKED JESUS INTO YOUR LIFE, DO NOT DOUBT THIS FACT!

When I first asked Jesus into my life, I knew that I was a Christian when things were going well. But when things were not good, I doubted my Salvation. Until about a year later, I heard a sermon, "Simply Believe." That was over 50 years ago, and I have never doubted ever again my salvation experience. It is important to articulate this now and many times over the next few months to a new Christian, "Believe with a childlike faith." Just as a young child believes and trusts their parent, encourage the new Christian to believe, trust, and have faith in God.

One suggestion, write down trusting in God's Bible verses to look up like John 3:16. Do not take for granted that they know how to find Bible verses in the Bible. Show them how to use the index/table of contents in a bible and the best way to read Bible verses.

Have you ever watched a love story movie like "Pretty Woman?" In the movie flick, Julia Roberts is a hooker but meets prince charming Richard Gere. Throughout the film, you cry, smile, and emotionally go away with good feelings and thoughts, hoping to find that mysterious and passionate love. These types of emotions come from external events, as in the picture illustration of a teen showing different emotions, which can be good but rarely are lasting. Sometimes with God, we can do the same with a more external emotion without seeing the actual change in our lives and heart. Be conscious of the person asking Jesus to come into their heart with only feeling emotions and not sincere repentance.

Colossians 1:13-14 states, "For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."

When we come to Christ with a repentant heart, we are given a new nature. God has changed us from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. A life genuinely following God is continually transformed, and there will be some changes, and we will start feeling, acting, and responding differently over time.

By receiving Christ, we do this by accepting God's gift of forgiveness, submitting to God's Word (the Bible), and by listening to that gentle, quiet voice of the Holy Spirit leading and guiding us. We are adopted into God's family, and it is a progressive working of the Holy Spirit changing us from the inside out by putting what God wants first.

Would you please keep in mind that no secret formula one size fits all in seeing the Holy Spirit change individuals? You see millions of snowflakes coming down in a snowstorm, but each individual snowflake is quite different. Each spiritual conversion is uniquely different in feeling, acting, and responding over time.

Yesterday's study guide taking the Next Steps for a New Christian is of most significant importance in helping the new child of God to grow spiritually. We would never say to a child, "blessings, and have a great life." Would you please review that helpful study guide here?

14. FINAL WRAP UP

Each point above is full of suggestive questions and answers to use. You do not need to use all the suggestions, and there is no hard or fast rule. Still, it is vital to highlight at least one point in each section in your presentation into your own words using your own stories or something similar that is a natural part of you. Recommend going over each section at least 10 to 12 times out loud. Personalize it for you to give the Gospel confidently.

When you present the Gospel, the main thing is to be alert to the persons' reactions and adjust accordingly. You might have to follow up with an explanation to identify at least one verse that backs up each step if the listener needs additional answers. Making sure it is clear and understandable what you are saying. You can do this by asking a question(s) that relates to the subject matter. Take nothing for granted as each person is a unique individual with entirely different life experiences and spiritual backgrounds.

It is easy to get lost in just telling a specific script without connecting to the person without them understanding what you are saying. As the more you share, you will not think as much of the process as going with the flow of the individual's responses. There is no all-encompassing and all-purpose solution to witnessing as each individual will be different. We have to trust the Holy Spirit and adapt to the opportunities for sharing. The last thing you want is to leave a wrong impression on a person. Remind yourself to leave the results with God even if you think you blew it, which we all have felt at times.

Practice, Practice, and Practice, and then highlight major points making your summary notes. Then Practice, Practice, and Practice again using brief notes. Next, on a flashcard/recipe card or something similar, write a few words on each point to help keep you on track.

PRACTICE USING A MIRROR, TAPE RECORDER, AN IPAD, AND ON A CHRISTIAN FRIEND
1st: PRACTICE sharing out loud with your notes.
2nd: PRACTICE sharing taping or videoing yourself using an Ipad or something similar.
3rd: PRACTICE by sharing by shortening and summarizing your notes while looking at a mirror.
4th: PRACTICE sharing using just keywords on a flashcard example here. (Buy at any dollar store, Staples, or make your own here.)
5th: PRACTICE sharing on a Christian friend/mentor listening to their advice.
6th: PRACTICE by sharing using the friend's feedback and making any necessary changes.
7th: PRACTICE on yourself throughout the day. Some examples are driving your car, brushing your teeth, out walking, or just relaxing. Find what works for you.
8th: It is IMPORTANT to be willing and ready to share the Gospel at any moment through out your day.

LET IT BE SECOND NATURE TO SHARE!
"But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." (1 Peter 3: 15.)

I certainly like this One Verse Method, as with a bit of practice, you will have at least one point on each one you circle. It is also a fun visual method, plus involving the person to participate by asking questions and being a positive attentive listener to their questions and answers. Their thoughts and questions will lead to a natural flow of sharing. You will be able to understand their relationship to God and the Gospel and adapt to their needs and personality. Essential to be observant of nervousness and signs of confusion and conscious of the person's understanding and reaction as you share. Ask if you can give them a tract or a Bible.

Most critical is remembering that the power to change lives is not in having an effective, smooth-running illustration. Instead, it is the Holy Spirit of God who opens people's hearts to understand and discover the message of Salvation (John 6:63-65.) But what a privilege we have in being able and ready to co-labor with God Himself in reaching out to the lost! So let us sharpen and hone our tools and be ready always to give the answer that everybody needs to hear with certainty and simplicity. Let it become part of your daily routine for the Kingdom's sake. In closing, we all feel we cannot do it for whatever reason and excuse we give. But please look and think of those in the Bible who were just ordinary people like you and me that spread the Gospel message.

Some Christians are content and do not want to take any risks in believing God to grow, mature, or share. They become hardened in unbelief, with no sense of God's presence, no vision, and no prayer life over time. Lacking interest for the lost world and their entire focus is on their problems going from one crisis to another. A lot of their days are filled with strife, confusion, and division. BUT, Beloved, you will only see His glory when you walk in obedience and faith as a Christian in sharing the Gospel. Choose that path and find life everlasting!
